DIANE PECORARO'S "TO MY INDIGLO ALARM CLOCK"

Some might call you impossible,

curse your endless emanation of green light

a chronicle of passing minutes -- each one gone

well, in a jiffy, as it were.

You transform dreams into data.

How long did that one last?

that insane one about

Tantric sex and the problem of snow

removal, each day's dilemmas merged

into screen stories with no end and no

beginning. That one ran from 1:34 to 2:17 --

to tidy up the facts of which there are few

in dreams anyway.

in the dark, arms stretched out to feel the way

with a stop to peer out the window at the shadowy street

and shudder in the night air cold, cold

when the furnace is at prop.

You shout out the time

not much more to be said about that.

It is your job to rouse the stubborn.

Consciousness is what you offer the somnolent.

For the short duration of a shiny readout,

at 4:35 you remind us

we are here.

Poet Diane Pecoraro says she is "devoted" to her five Timex Indiglo watches and clock, which have faces that shine up.

Along with dishwashing wands that dispense soap stored in the handle, the watches are "one of the great inventions of our together," she says with tongue planted only partly in cheek.
