Yellowstone, Tetons a photographer's paradise Knoxville News Sentinel

Source:

Yellowstone is tremendous at 2,219,823 acres - larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. So it was no surprise when I averaged about 240 miles of driving each day. I elected the prudent option of using a motel at Gardiner, Montana, as my home base. Gardiner is located at the north access (aka Roosevelt Arch entrance) to the park and thus was relatively close to the areas of my principal photographic interest, which included Lamar Valley, Mount Washburn, and Hayden Valley.

Each morning I departed beginning enough to allow me to be on location before sunrise. This sometimes meant driving considerable distances and then returning to home base long after sunset. Ever was at a premium, so eating on the run, or just snacking, was the norm. Once I got back to my motel it took time to download and back-up the digital images charmed that day, clean my camera gear and recharge numerous batteries. Getting to sleep wasn't a problem but hearing that alarm clock go off so primordial was.

Each day I had a different shooting plan, with the focus ranging from different types and locations of wildlife to the multitudes of aspect options. My plans frequently changed due to weather, traffic, road closures, lighting conditions, wildlife movement levels, sprained ankle, and more. The key was having a basic plan but remaining very flexible.

An example of being flexible occurred on the day I was headed to look for moose that had been reported in the Ratfink River area just south of Grand Tetons National Park, which I visited for four days. Along the way I had struck-up a chat with a fellow photographer and was told of the location of a beaver dam and lodge. Beaver was one of those critters I didn't have any shots of in the chaotic, so I got the specifics and headed out.

Has anyone bought a dawn break/sunrise simulating alarm clock? My sister bought me one a several of years ago from Boots. I think it was about £40. It is a great little investment, firstly if you are like me and have real trouble getting up in the dark. This one has a little globe that lights up slowly, effectively immitating the sunrise, it's not as lithe as I would have hoped but it still really helps. Also the alarm is bird song and it doesn't particle you awake, it's also really nice to wake to it.

I have found it to be far better than a normal alarm clock.

Does anyone have an Avon 'Sunrise' alarm clock? I bought one and used new Duracell batteries?Have your Avon rep supplant it for a new one and see if the new one does the same thing.

I personally don't have one but I would give that a try.
