    My digital alarm clock/radio is 18 years old, should I replace it?If the old creature is still working, what's the point?

    Anything on the market now will inevitably have Chinese-made parts. China is in the halfway point of figuring out that shoddy quality is more expensive than it looks. <g> Over time, they will get better, but for now, be deterred with what works.

    I have an electronic alarm clock that I wired up from a kit (Heathkit, may they rest in peace) in 1978. The back-up battery bale is long dead, but the thing still does a faithful job. <g>

Even so you'll need to prove you bought it from there. Neither Argos or the producer are obliged to help you without any proof of purchase. Try going in on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, the director may take pity on you and give you a 'goodwill' replacement.
